Response from Pandora's Box Press

August 22, 2001

Dear Cass:

Thank you so much for your letter. Before I decide whether or not to choose Pandora's Box Press I will need a little more information.

Specifically, how much will I be paid for my novel? Also I was wondering if you paid by the word or for the whole thing. The reason I am asking is that a) I want to know and b) I was a little worried because you can't afford stamps.

As you can well understand I don't want to get involved with a publishing house that is going under so I would need some proof that you are solvent.

The novel right now, if I add Jayde to my more profound work, comes up to about 50 pages if I use 20PT type. If you pay by the word I might want to add a little more to it. It might take awhile though because I'm recovering from a break-up. My boyfriend Simon is going through a period of "confusion" and isn't sure what he wants. Right now he is seeing a guy called David but before that he was two-timing me with a woman called Sheila who I thought was a bitch but now that she has no hope of being with him she seems OK.

I'm in a bit of a hurry as I would like the book to come out before Christmas so if you could respond in the next few days I would appreciate it!

Sincerely,
